Welcome to the September edition of the Royal Oxford Roundup! The summer holidays might be drawing to a close, but there are still lots of things to do in and around Oxford!


Kicking things off this month we have The Great Antique and Vintage Car Boot Show on Sunday 1st September at Stonor Park. Boasting a high standard of sellers of vintage curiosities and antique wares, this Car Boot Show has previously attracted buyers such as Pete Doherty, Mary Berry and Russell Brand. For your festival needs as we head into September, you could head to Bunkfest Saturday 30th August – Sunday 1st September. Featuring music, dance, events and of course beer this is the perfect final fling of the summer holiday. Events include a street fair, the children’s Bunkfest and The Craft Village. Thursday 5th and Friday 6th September is the British Society for the Philosophy of Religion’s Thirteenth Conference: Death and Immortality. This conference features eminent speakers in this field and explores the relationship between grief and death and religious practice and faith. Are you a wine connoisseur? Or do you simply like wine? If so, the Oxford Wine Festival is a must-visit event which runs Friday 6th and Saturday 7th September. There are tastings and exhibitors available both days, but the tastings are filling up fast with some already sold out at the time of writing this roundup. Why not visit Oxford’s traditional St Giles Fair. A fairground opens on Monday 9th and Tuesday 10th September from 11am-11pm, complete with candy floss and assort attractions. This annual 2 day funfair event takes over Oxford's central thoroughfare at the northern end of Oxford City Center. Buses travelling into and out of Oxford from the north will be diverted and road closures in the area of St Giles' will apply from 12.01am on Sunday 2nd September through to 8.30am on Wednesday 5th September 2018. At the Waterperry Ornamental Gardens the herbaceous border bursts to life with Michaelmas Daisies in the late summer, the best time to see these will be Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th September this year and is definitely worth a visit. Enjoy life on the river in the late summer sunshine with Hobbs of Henley who run public cruises all year round. In September there a range of public river cruises including sightseeing tours, jazz cruises, Midsomer Murders tours, gin tasting, afternoon tea and more. To celebrate 170 years of beer and brewing at Hook Norton Brewery they invite you to Party Like It’s 1849! On Saturday 14th September they will have a jazz band, street food, a gin bar and more. To follow the party, there is the Sunday Fun Day which is the family open day for the brewery with shire horses, steam and traction engines and plenty of activities for small people too! Step back in time with the Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway and marvel at the beautifully restored steam engines while you take part in some of their events throughout September. You can enjoy cream teas, The Great St Trinians Treasure Hunt and Steam & Morning Coffee sessions at the station and on board the steam engines. If you've ever wanted to visit Christ Church College and enjoy activities and dinner in the hall, then put Saturday 21st September in your diary. The “Open House” event is open to all members, friends, families and guests and has activities for the whole family. You can book events in advance, or just turn up on the day!
