Introduction

Royal Oxford Hotel is located on Park End Street in Oxford and all of Oxford’s famous colleges, museums, restaurants, and other attractions are within walking distance from the hotel. Royal Oxford Hotel offers 26 En-Suite guest bedrooms: 13 Double bedrooms, 10 Twin bedrooms (2 single beds in each room), 1 Single bedroom, 2 Family bedrooms (1 Double and 1 Single bed in each room).

The building was built in 1930 and has been updated with modern features. However, due to the age of the building there are several features which make access difficult for people with limited mobility.

Pre-arrival

Royal Oxford Hotel is located on the fully paved Park End Street in Oxford (OX1 1HR) approximately 500 yards from the Oxford Train Station and a 5-minute walk from Oxford City Centre and the main Oxford Bus Station, which is known as Gloucester Green.

A few of Oxford's Taxi Operators offer accessible taxi services: ABC Taxis (01865 770077) and A1 Taxis (01865 248000). Our front desk will be pleased to order taxis at your request or there is a taxi rank outside the train station.

There are bus stops just outside the hotel from where you can take buses to various local destinations. For buses to London and other local destinations, please walk to Gloucester Green bus station just a 5-minute walk from the hotel. All the Oxford Buses are disability friendly.

For guests arriving from Heathrow or Gatwick Airports, there are excellent coach services to Oxford from both airports. There are direct, frequent buses between Oxford and Heathrow/Gatwick. For more information and timetables please visit: http://www.oxfordbus.co.uk/main.php?page_id=24.

The approximate journey time to Gloucester Green from Heathrow is 90 minutes and from Gatwick, 2-2 ½ hours.

There is a grocery store, newsagent, and several fast-food restaurants near the hotel as well as several excellent good restaurants. The main shopping centre, The Westgate, is located on Cornmarket Street, a 5-minute walk from the hotel. A scheme funded by the City Council for borrowing a self-propelled or battery-operated wheelchair or scooter to travel in the City Centre is available. Booking is required, but there is no charge. Car parking and arrival

There is no parking on site, however, you can park at the Long Stay Train Station Car Park on Becket Street, Oxford, OX1 1PP at £10 for 24 hours. You need to contact the hotel on the day of arrival to receive the Location Code which will entitle you to park there at a discounted rate.

The Seacourt Park and Ride on Botley Road (OX2 0HP) costs £4.00 per day. You will have to take the Park & Ride bus which will drop you off in front of the hotel and the single fare costs £2.00. The Park and Ride buses run every 10 to 15 minutes, however, you can take any bus number 4 (a, b, c), S1 or U1 from Botley Road and those buses run every 5 minutes.

If coming from the A34, you can park your car at the Park & Ride before coming to the hotel. The Park & Ride is located at the very beginning of Botley Road on your left-hand side before the Volvo Garage.

The Seacourt Park & Ride is a convenient and secure car park, which is managed by Oxfordshire County Council and is a 2-minute drive from the hotel.

Disabled persons showing both parts of the Orange Badge can park for free in any of the on-street parking spaces, but standard charges will apply in the off-street car parks;

All car parks are well lighted throughout the night; streetlights cover the entire walk from the car park to the hotel and the pavement is straight and even.

Access to our property is gained from the main entrance on Park End Street. The entrance is always alight. When entering the building please push or pull the main door. If guests require assistance, please ring the bell on the right-hand side. Please note that the main door is closed from 11 pm until 7 am. During these times, please ring the doorbell and the night porter will open the door for you.

There is only 1 step to the main entrance which is 7.5 cm high and 100 cm wide; there are no more steps to the reception, lounge area, bar or the cafe.

The reception and the cafe, The Olive Branch, are located on the ground floor, whereas 13 Bedrooms are located on the 1st floor and the other 13 rooms are located on the 2nd floor. The Royal Oxford Hotel does not have a lift, however, all customers are escorted to their rooms and offered help with luggage.


Main entrance / reception / welcome area

Guests are welcomed at the reception where they are asked to register. The reception is level throughout.

There are comfortable leather sofas and there is plenty of space for wheelchairs or a pushchair. The area has overhead lighting; the flooring is wooden with a carpet between the sofas.

We have a hearing loop system for deaf and hard of hearing guests at the reception desk. Pens and pads of paper are also available at the reception desk.

The check in procedure can be carried out in the lounge area or the guests’ bedroom on the customer's request. During the check in procedure, receptionists explain the hotels facilities, the location of restaurants and provide guests with local maps and escort guests to their bedroom.


Bedrooms

Our guest rooms are located on the 1st and 2nd floors and accessed by means of stairs with 20 steps (110 cm wide, 17 cm high) to the 1st floor and a further 18 steps to the 2nd floor. There are hand rails on both sides of the staircase.

Rooms are numbered; rooms starting with number 1 are located on the 1st floor, and those starting with number 2 on the 2nd floor, and there are clear sign posted directions to the rooms as well as clear signs on the top of each door.

Doors can be wide, or half open in all the rooms. The door width is 76 cm.

The bed heights differ but are approximately 55 cm. The distance between twin beds is approximately 60 cm.

Furniture can be moved around or removed upon guest’s request with notification of at least 24 hours prior to arrival.

There are no interconnecting rooms; however, there is a space for an extra single fold up bed in both family rooms, in 4 of our double rooms and in 1 Twin room at an extra cost.

All rooms have excellent lighting with overhead lighting. Extra desk lamps can be provided on request.

All rooms have warm light grey painted walls, dark grey carpets and beige bed covers and curtains.

Also each room has a wooden wardrobe.

In the wardrobes, guests can find an additional blanket and non- allergic pillows.

All rooms have direct dial phones with large buttons.


Bathrooms, shower-rooms and toilets

All rooms are en-suite.

All the bathroom doors can be wide, or half opened. 21 bathrooms have large walk-in showers, and 5 bathrooms have a roll top bath (with nonslip bathmat), shower over a bath and glass shower screen.

Bath height is 55 cm.

The height of the WC from floor to seat is 42 cm.

The height of Washbasin is 77 cm.

All bathrooms have overhead lighting.

All bathrooms have blue coloured non-slip Altro flooring, grey tiles and white fluffy towels that include bath sheets.


Public areas - halls, stairs, landings, corridors

All public areas, halls and stairs have overhead lighting.

Corridors are 100 cm wide.

There is a continuing flight of stairs with 20 steps (110 cm wide, 17 cm high) to the 1st floor and a further 18 steps to the 2nd floor. There is a handrail on both sides. The stairs are carpeted.

The hotel has a gas central heating throughout and temperatures can be adjusted in each room to suit individual needs.

Also, the hotel is fully air-conditioned. To operate the air-conditioning a remote control is provided, it is in every bedroom either above the writing desk or above the entrance door.

There are automatic audible smoke alarms throughout the hotel.


Public areas - lounges, lobbies

The Lobby/ Lounge area is in the reception, which is level throughout.

Seating is available with several comfortable leather sofas; also, there is plenty of space for wheelchairs or a pushchair. The area has overhead lighting; the flooring is wooden with a carpet between the sofas.

There is no TV, and no food or drink can be served in the lobby/ lounge area.

However, the food and drink can be served in the cafe, which is accessible from reception.


Cafe/dining room, bar & bar area

The cafe is located on the ground floor.
The width of the main doors is approximately 1 meter.

Spaces between tables are large enough for a wheelchair or pushchair.
The height of the tables is 75 cm.

All areas have good lighting, with ceiling spotlights.
The floor surface is tiled.

Vegetarian menu and other dietary requirements are available.
There is no large, printed menu available; however, staff can read out the menu.

Crockery contrasts in colour with the table.


Public toilets

There are no public toilets available.

The WC at the Café is available to paying customers only and is easily accessible, separated from the restaurant by a corridor.


Description of disabled toilets

There is level entry to the WC and no steps, the width of the door 90 cm.

Space for a wheelchair (when facing the WC) is approximately 1.5 m.

The height of the WC from floor to seat is 42 cm.

There are horizontal and vertical grab rails in the disabled toilets, located on the right-hand side of the toilet.

There is a flashing light and a fire alarm.
In case of an emergency guests must pull the red alarm cord.

The lighting is fluorescent. The floor is non-slip and tiled.
The taps are metal.
